The Cedar Mill Fine Firearms MonoShaft™ Gun Case Lock is a TSA-compliant firearm case lock engineered specifically for checked baggage firearms transport under 49 CFR §1540.111, the federal regulation governing civilian firearms carriage on commercial aircraft.

Why MonoShaft™ Design Matters

Standard padlocks use a U-shackle: a curved metal bar that can be cut with bolt cutters. The MonoShaft™ construction eliminates the exposed shackle entirely — the locking mechanism is a single integrated shaft body with no external loop to compromise. This directly addresses the most common point of attack on conventional gun case locks and provides meaningful tamper resistance in checked baggage handling environments.

TSA Compliance at a Glance

Federal law (49 CFR §1540.111) requires that unloaded firearms in checked baggage be locked in a hard-sided container. The airline must verify the case is locked, but only the passenger — not TSA — may hold the key. This lock is built to that standard. It fits all standard gun case lock holes found on Cedar Mill cases and is universally compatible with third-party hard-sided firearms cases that use standard lock lug geometry.

Transport Use Cases

  • Domestic air travel under TSA rules
  • NFA item transport: registered suppressors, SBRs, and SBSs carried as checked baggage must also be in a locked hard-sided case — this lock covers that requirement
  • International travel: the TSA standard satisfies U.S. departure requirements; destination-country regulations for firearms importation require separate verification
  • Ground transport: works for vehicle storage, range bags, and locked storage outside of air travel contexts

Available Configurations

Available in 1-pack ($19.99) and 2-pack ($29.99). Most airline check-in procedures for hard-sided gun cases require two locks minimum, making the 2-pack the practical choice for air travel. Available in six colors: Black, Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, and White. Color-coding multiple locks across cases simplifies identification in shared transport situations.
