The Cedar Mill Fine Firearms Discreet Concealment Guitar Rifle Case is a hard-sided rifle case built in the exterior silhouette of a guitar case. It transports rifles, carbines, and suppressor-equipped long guns through airports, public transit, and civilian environments without presenting the visual profile of a firearms case.

What "Discreet Concealment" Means Operationally

This case applies the Grey Man principle: it blends into the environment by presenting an object that belongs there. A guitar case in an airport, concert venue, or vehicle is unremarkable. A rifle case in those same environments draws attention. The exterior reads as a musical instrument case - the interior secures a rifle. This is legal, practical, and increasingly relevant for shooters who want to reduce situational exposure during transport.

This is not a "stealth" or "concealed carry" product in the legal sense. The firearm is checked, declared, and transported in full compliance with airline regulations. Discretion is visual, not regulatory.

TSA Compliance for Air Travel

The case is hard-sided and lockable, satisfying 49 CFR §1540.111 for firearms in checked baggage. Firearms must be declared unloaded at the airline counter, placed in this locked hard-sided case, and transported as checked baggage only. This case is carry-on incompatible by regulation - do not attempt to carry it on board.

Compatible Firearms

Fits standard AR-15 and AK-pattern carbines, bolt-action rifles, and suppressor-equipped rifles. NFA compatibility: SBRs and SBSs are legally transported the same as any firearm under 49 CFR §1540.111 provided they are registered and unloaded - this case meets the hard-sided lockable requirement for that transport.

Firearm Fit Guide

This case has a guitar-shaped interior with a pick-and-pluck foam base. Interior dimensions are 42 inches long, 17 inches wide at the lower bout, and 13 inches wide at the neck area. Interior depth verification is in progress; see the note below.

Firearms that fit (stock collapsed or folded)

  • AR-15 carbines with 16-inch barrel, stock collapsed: fits with several inches of clearance
  • AR-15 carbines with 16-inch barrel, stock extended: fits; muzzle devices under 2 inches add no problem
  • AR pistols and short-barreled rifles (10.5-inch or shorter barrel) with folding or collapsing brace: fits easily
  • AK-pattern carbines with 16-inch barrel: fits standard configurations
  • Ruger 10/22 (18.5-inch barrel): fits standard stock; the takedown model packs shorter and fits easily
  • Suppressor-equipped AR-15 with cans up to 6 inches: fits when total length stays under 42 inches; measure your configured length before ordering
  • Compact bolt-action rifles with 18 to 20 inch barrel: fits if overall length is 41 inches or under
  • Semi-automatic and pump shotguns with 18.5-inch barrel: fits in length; verify your stock height clears the lid

Firearms that do not fit

  • Bolt-action hunting rifles with 22-inch or longer barrel: typical overall length 42 inches or more; the lid will not close
  • Pump and semi-auto shotguns in standard field configuration with 26 to 28 inch barrel: too long
  • Any rifle with overall length over 42 inches in the configuration you plan to transport

Thompson-style rifles with front vertical grip

The Kahr Arms Thompson 1927A1 (16.5-inch barrel, about 41.5 inches overall) is close to the length limit. The front vertical grip projects downward when the rifle lies flat, so fit depends on interior depth at the neck zone, which we are currently verifying. If you have this specific rifle, contact us before ordering.

How to check your rifle

Measure your rifle in the exact configuration you will transport it: stock fully extended, any brace deployed, suppressor mounted if applicable. At 41 inches or under, this case is a safe fit on length. Between 41 and 42 inches, the fit is marginal and the foam may need repositioning.

Interior depth at the neck zone is being verified. If you are transporting a scoped rifle with tall turrets or a rifle with a vertical forward grip, contact us before purchasing and we will confirm fit for your setup.
